i quit my job
Of course, I had to at one point.
Although saying that nowadays doesn't usually produce a great reaction. 10 years ago people would be celebrating.
Obviously my circumstances are different. But wow, I thought id be happier.
They let me off early today, hands full of flowers, donuts, and gifts. I spoke with a close co-worker, and she noted how surprised she was that I hated this job.
"Everyone in the college always spoke high praises for you, as if you were a golden admin."
I knew that already, but I've heard it more and more as my last days approach. I changed the way some things were done. I influenced people to buy door signs that indicate whether someone was working remote or not. The whole English department is going to be purchasing it, the biggest department in humanities. And walking around my building, I see people have the exact door signs I bought for my department. I sent it to one person, and the link got spread around. I cleaned out the copy room that was filled with garbage for 4 years, ordered a shred bin, got us a new printer, cleaned the conference room, never let the department run out of coffee, answered emails within 24 hours, etc. I just did basic admin stuff.
The mayor's wife works at my university, she also wished me well. The first lady of my town haha.
Looking back, it does seems like I was super dedicated and didn't hate every day. I'm just confused. Was I really that good? All I did was my job and make the department organized. I feel like that's the bare minimum. Is this the cure to imposter syndrome? Quitting your job?
Maybe I'm not so bad after all...
